Mohammed Zafran known as Zaf in the UK lost his 30 year old blind sister to cancer. Zaf set up various programs for young Asian women who were forced to quit education at the age of 15 and sent abroad to get forcefully married. Zaf through sport, got these women in further education and employment and engaged with over 12,000 women who have become role models. Zaf’s women in sport project (Freedom for Women) was featured on Sky Sports News with girls running around freely in a sports hall playing football with a scarf on. Zaf has done various projects for the deaf and blind institutes and set up football programs for them to make them feel competitive. In 2010, Zaf lost his 24 year old brother in law to a brutal murder getting stabbed in the head with a screwdriver. Zaf started roaming around in his local areas and with the support of South and City College Principal Mike Hopkins, Zaf opened the college up for these vulnerable youths on weekends to engage them with sporting activities. Till date Zaf has engaged with over 40,000 youths and has become the UK Goodwill Ambassador for Youth and Community. The Prime Minister at the time David Cameron wrote to the Queen to honour Zaf and he was awarded the British Empire Medal along with the Pride Of Birmingham Award, National Diversity Award and the Pride Of Sports Award for a project which appeared on Sky Sports Women in Sport in which Zaf got young girls in hijab playing football. Zaf has used Sport as the main tool to turn thousands of young lives around and Zaf travels all across the UK to deliver his message of peace and love in the community. Zaf set up Unite and Uplift Together CIC to deliver projects for the community. Zaf has contributed to over 350 community projects and alarmingly only 35 of these projects have been funded by organisations such as Awards 4 All and the West Midlands Police Fund which meant Zaf self funded these projects with the support of local community and parents who were concerned about their children. Zaf caters for Boxing, Football, Cricket, Snooker, Tennis, Basketball, Knife Crime workshops, drugs and awareness sessions, Mentoring, CV classes, and much more to encourage the community is benefitting with his programmes. Zaf has done fundraising for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and supports all good causes. Zaf has recently travelled to Turkey after he helped raise over 40,000 items for the earthquake victims. Zaf set up various multi faith groups to tackle radicalisation and is often at the forefront when the Police are struggling to tackle youth crime. Zaf has over 450 volunteers on board and recently was appointed the West Midlands Chair of the Crimestoppers in 2023. Zaf delivered 37 projects on line during COVID to keep youths engaged working with over 8,200 youths and supporting them through on line programs. Zaf is the heart beat for the Youths in the UK and was awarded in the Top 100 Parliament list as the most powerful and influential British Muslim in the World. Zaf has won over 40 National and International awards for his humanitarian work and deserves the title as a Youth Pioneer for being such an Inspiration for everyone in the UK and is yet so humble. Zaf has displayed with his courage that his risked his life engaging with gangs and vulnerable youths only to change lives and is a living experience on how you can make a negative and tragical life experience into a positive platform for so many people. Zaf has done sports projects recently with the Ukrainian youths to enable them to deal with issues mentally after the torment they faced in their respective country. Zaf is at the forefront when it comes down to kick out Racism and fights for every cause which affects the community. Zaf is the Cabinet member for Overseas Business Forum UK which supports small and large businesses to network in order for them to grow.
